In late 2012, I learned about the 2013 tour of the China Silk Road to be led by Professor Shudong Chen of Johnson County Community College (JCCC - Johnson County, Kansas) and co-led by my good friend Carolyn Kadel, the recently retired head of the International Department at JCCC.
After a brief consultation with my spouse and traveling partner Sharon, we decided to join the trip. While a trip to China had not been on our "bucket list" we both agreed that we were so curious about China that we really wanted to go, and trusted Carolyn's judgment that this would be a good trip. We signed up, and began paying our fees.
