The traveling group of 16 met four times, at the JCCC campus, to get acquainted and learn more about our destination and plans. We met about once per month from January to April. Two of the travelers reside in Seattle, and were not able to meet with the group, so we first met them upon arrival in Beijing.
A handful of the travelers are widely experienced world travelers. Shudong and Carolyn Kadel had both been to China multiple times, of course. Two other members had been to China some years earlier. The majority of the group were of retirement age, or nearly so. At least six members were current or former JCCC staff members. One young man is an active JCCC student and is a first year student at JCCC (in Chinese), and will be spending the fall 2013 semester in Xian, China on a JCCC scholarship.
